- 2010-09-13: Samsung released a
Firmware
update for F3/F3EG to fix problems with AMD SB850 southbridge.

- 2010-04-27: We added a new SVN branch RELEASE_5_39_DRIVEDB with a drive database file
drivedb.h
which is compatible with smartmontools 5.39 and 5.39.1. This file can be used to update
/usr/share/smartmontools/drivedb.h if smartmontools build was configured with
--enable-drivedb. Otherwise entries from this file could also be used
to create /etc/smart_drivedb.h.
- 2010-01-28: We released
version 5.39.1 of Smartmontools.

- 2009-12-09: We released

- 2009-07-16: We moved our CVS-Repository to Subversion. If built from trunk, the first line of smartmontools output now reports the SVN revision date and number, e.g: smartctl 5.39 2009-07-16 r2838 [i686-pc-linux-gnu] (local build). So if you send smartctl output, we can now identify the exact revision :-)
- 2009-03-23: Experimental support for Sunplus USB bridges is available with new option -d usbsunplus, for JMicron USB bridges with option -d usbjmicron. We are very interested in your test results with the new device types and collect all feedback on our USB-Support Wiki-Page.
- 2009-01-22: Some newer Seagate/Maxtor disks risk a sudden death due to buggy firmware: 7200.11, ES.2, Diamondmax 22. See the Details, reported by Seagate's customer support.

About Smartmontools
The smartmontools package contains two utility programs (smartctl and smartd)
to control and monitor storage systems using the Self-Monitoring, Analysis and
Reporting Technology System (SMART) built into most modern ATA and SCSI harddisks.
In many cases, these utilities will provide advanced warning of disk degradation and failure.
Smartmontools was originally derived from the Linux smartsuite package and actually supports ATA/ATAPI/SATA-3 to -8 disks and SCSI disks and tape devices. It should run on any modern Darwin (Mac OS X), Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris, OS/2, Cygwin, QNX, eComStation or Windows system. Smartmontools can also be run from one of many different bootable CDs or floppies.
Due to OS-specific issues and also depending on the different state of smartmontools development on the platforms, device support is not the same for all OS platforms. We provide info about RAID-controller support here on the homepage and of course in the manpages.
