Description (last modified by Christian Franke)

Three months ago we've bought new WD2500AVVS drives. Today I've set up two of them in RAID1 and installed Arch Linux on new array. When I checked SMART status of these drives via smartctl I've noticed non-zero values in some fields which do must be zero for new drives (StartStopCount, LoadCycleCount etc, see attachment)

NB that normalized values in attributes table for strange attrs sometimes exceed 100

Milestone: undecided

Are these possibly refurbished drives?

Same as in your ticket #849: Essentially smartctl prints what the drive firmware returns. If bogus info is returned, there is nothing we could do.

NB that normalized values in attributes table for strange attrs sometimes exceed 100

Max normalized values > 100 (often 200) are returned by many drives and do not indicate disk problems.
