[Future Req./Bug] using smartctl in SMSC Buffalo USB Ext-HDD doesn't work

Description

Read title.

Linux detects as Bus 002 Device 006: ID 0411:002a BUFFALO INC. (formerly MelCo., Inc.) SMSC USB97C202 "HD-HB300V2-EU"

But smartctl doesn't work under this device, Through my Int-HDD works.

Can someone please look into it?

Please try: smartctl -d sat ...

If this works, we could add this USB ID to drive database.

Because -d sat doesn't work, I am writing here.

If neither -d sat nor any other USB specific -d option works, the USB bridge of this device may not support any ATA pass-through SCSI command (or another one we don't know about).

There were also reports about similar problems if the Linux UAS (USB Attached SCSI) driver is loaded.

Please provide the output of smartctl -r ioctl,2 -d sat ... for this device as an attachment to this ticket.

For next submissions, PLEASE use attachments (as requested above) for smartctl output.

This device apparently does not support SAT.

If no other -d usb* option works, there is nothing we could do (except adding this USB ID as unsupported to drivedb.h).

SAT is not working, no protocol data exists.
