Support pass-through for JMicron 322/363

Description

I use HDD Guardian on Windows as a GUI and I've reported this issue since back in 2013. I know now that there is nothing to be done on HDD Guardian's side unless the underlying software provides support for JMicron 322/363.

Just wondering if anybody has contacted JMicron customer support department (fae@…) regarding this matter and if so, what was their reply.

No. Did you?

Do you have any evidence that firmware and Windows driver of the JMF322 RAID Port Multiplier support ATA pass-through (e.g. some vendor specific tool exists, other SMART tools work, ...)?

Note that any actual development & testing would require access to real hardware with this controller (and enough spare time :-).

No, I did not think that they would reply to me as an individual. If one of the project maintainers contacted them, I believe they'd have more chances of getting a reply + answer any technical questions they might ask.

I have a tool called Drive Booster Manager provided by MSI (the manufacturer of the mainboard with the JMicron controller). The tool is in version 0.09.44 and has not had any updates for years now but has been functioning fine under Windows 7 x64. The controller driver is at version 1.17.65.11 and dates back in 2012.

In the screenshot I attached you'll see that the Driver Booster Manager tool lists 2 "controllers" that are actually two RAID1 mirrors. One of them is currently degraded with one drive missing, but the other one is ok and you'll see the two WD hard drives that comprise the mirror.

Note that any actual development & testing would require access to real hardware with this controller (and enough spare time :-).

I have access to the mainboard and I will try to make time. I understand. Just let me know what would help.

Resolution: wontfix
Status: newclosed

I am closing this ticket because it is not possible to work on this task due to number of reasons:

  • it is not clear if this controller supports ATA pass-through
  • there is no specification or other closed-source tool with SMART support
  • developers do not have access to such hardware

Please open a new ticket if you will find more information about this controller.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
