SMART Attribute Thresholds Structure error

Description

Hi, first post, hope I'm doing it right. I have an 8TB Western Digital Red Pro HDD attached to an MX Linux laptop in an Inateck FE3001 enclosure (w/ ASMEDIA ASM1153E controller). I'm disabled with ALS and can only connect to the laptop via SSH for troubleshooting and my wife handles physically connecting and disconnecting as needed.

I'm getting the following error just under the SMART header area:
Warning! SMART Attribute Thresholds Structure error: invalid SMART checksum.

I realize this issue may be caused by the enclosure, but I don't have a desktop to test the drive in. The drive is brand new (70 hours power-on) and passed conveyance, short, and long self-tests without error, but I'm concerned about the presence of the warning and whether it might prevent actual issues from being reported or might report issues where none actually exist.

I contacted inateck support but they don't offer firmware updates, and from what I understand neither does Western Digital. I'm considering a different enclosure but I don't know if I should try the same ASMEDIA controller.

Is this warning something to be worried about?

Thanks.

This is a firmware bug. Cannot be fixed by smartctl.
