I get the following when I try that on my Samsung T7 Shield, 2TB and 4TB.
smartctl 7.3 2022-02-28 r5338 [Darwin 22.5.0 arm64] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-22, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org /dev/disk5: Type 'sntasmedia': Not a device of type 'scsi'
This Anandtech article seems to indicate the use of ASMedia ASM2362 in their 4TB review unit.

Perhaps this is an issue with the the SAT SMART Driver and not smartmontools?
I'm using the one provided by Binary Fruit who makes DriveDx.

You are using what? I'm using the standard smartmontools package (smartmontools 7.3-1) and the standard kernel (linux 6.3.1.arch1-1) on Arch Linux.

See ticket #1733 (2TB version).
Another Samsung T7 device reportedly uses an ASMedia ASM2362 bridge, see ticket #1403.
Please test
-d sntasmedia
option with smartmontools 7.3 or a recent CI build (https://builds.smartmontools.org/).
