Smartmontools is causing the error-log of HPE drives to increment constantly. Our drives are hitting 100k+ errors. Related to: https://www.smartmontools.org/ticket/1134

If possible, please test which of the following commands result in a new error log entry:

smartctl -i ...
smartctl -A ...
smartctl -l error ...

I tried all of the above and I do not think any of these are causing the error count to increase. However, the error count is increasing at a 4/min it seems. What checks the drives 4x per min? Perhaps smartd?

The identical Status values suggest that some component frequently issues an invalid or unsupported NVMe command.

The default check interval of smartd is 30min. It simply calls sleep(1800) afterwards. Smartd issues the same NVMe commands as smartctl -i -A. Stop smartd for some time to see whether the problem persists.
