    1313UAS transfer mode was enabled, and it seems like the rejection by the Linux kernel was the cause of the issues.
    14 The referenced tickets (#971 and #1078 in particular) helped me to disable UAS and get what I believe to be reasonable SMART output. The main steps were: Adding the kernel boot parameter `usb_storage.quirks=0x0bc2:0xab38:u` as `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX` in `/etc/default/grub` and rebooting the system.
