I have:

1. FreeBSD gate.domain.com 9.0-RELEASE-p3 FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE-p3 #0: Tue Jun 12 02:52:29 UTC 2012 root@…:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64
2. smartmontools-6.0 installed from ports.

Problem: This problem was in the earlier version of the smartctl too for any values in smartctl -l scterc,*,* /dev/sde

This is the first time when I see this error and I can understand what does it mean. I also did some research on google and unfortunately I didn't found anything about this error.

After upgrading smartmontools from 5.42 to 6.0 smartd with DEVICESCAN in smartd.conf

smartd -r ioctl,3 -d don't show any ioctls, just:

RAID controller - Supermicro SMC2108 (seems to be LSI MegaRAID SAS 9260)
