#612 fixed WD My Passport drive returning "Invalid ATA output register values" Christian Franke Jeremy Chadwick
Description

I've begun to see the following error in smartctl, I believe since 6.4 (I can try 6.3 if you need me to) when doing smartctl -a /dev/sdc on my USB-attached WD My Passport drive:

=== START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION ===
SMART Status command failed
Please get assistance from http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/
Register values returned from SMART Status command are:
 ERR=0x00, SC=0x00, LL=0x00, LM=0x00, LH=0x00, DEV=0x00, STS=0x00
SMART Status not supported: Invalid ATA output register values
SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: PASSED
Warning: This result is based on an Attribute check.

Not sure, but could this possibly be related to https://www.smartmontools.org/ticket/548 ?

I do find it interesting that ASC=0 but ASCQ=0x1D, though I have virtually no experience with SAT (which I believe this model of drive does require; I have to use -d sat if specifying the drive by mounted drive letter vs. /dev string).

Here's output from smartctl -r ioctl,2 -i -H /dev/sdc. If you need anything else, just lemme know.

#615 wontfix Apple TS0256F shows spurious FAILING_NOW results Chris Ferebee
Description

I have a 256 GB SSD in my 2014 11" MacBook Air, OS X 10.11.0. I believe the TS0256F is manufactured by Toshiba, while many MacBooks use an SM0256F manufactured by Samsung.

Almost all parameters are listed as FAILING_NOW, but the SSD appears to function normally in every way. For example, when the MacBook is idle, temperature is reported as 32 (see below), and with the SSD under heavy continuous write load the temperature parameter will go up to 82. Read and write speeds are as expected, around 550/450 MB/s.

I understand that attribute 173 (Wear_Leveling_Count) starts at 200 and counts down, triggering an error when it reaches 100. It's currently at 197, which I take as confirmation that the drive has not been overused.

Is this just a cosmetic bug?

#618 worksforme Add Crucial_CT960M500SSD1 to database Vincent Danjean
Description

Hi, I've a disk that is not in the smart database:

Device Model:     Crucial_CT960M500SSD1
Serial Number:    14010960553B
LU WWN Device Id: 5 00a075 10960553b
Firmware Version: MU03
User Capacity:    960 197 124 096 bytes [960 GB]
Sector Sizes: 512 bytes logical, 4096 bytes physical
Rotation Rate:    Solid State Device
Form Factor:      2.5 inches
Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall]

Looking for information, I found #326 and referenced commits 3925 and 3926 that suggests me that I should be just needed to add the reference of my disk in smartctl database, hence this bug report. Here is the current report of smartctl (with smartmontools 6.3+svn4002 as in the Debian package):

The current drivedb.h does not seem to list my disk for now (I did not compile and test the last svn commit, I just looked at the sources) : trunk/smartmontools/drivedb.h: [...]

    "Crucial_CT(120|240|480)M500SSD[13]", // Marvell 88SS9187 BLD2, tested with Crucial_CT120M500SSD3/MU02,
    // Crucial_CT120M500SSD1/MU02, Crucial_CT240M500SSD1/MU03, Crucial_CT480M500SSD1/MU03
